A comprehensive course on Bharatanatyam based on Instructional Scaffolding of the three main components, the 3Ns :
Nrutta – The Footwork, Nritya – Hand Gestures and Expressions along with Footwork &
Natya – Rendition & Performance.

At Beej, the teaching emphasizes on the traditional method of yore - strengthening the foundation through experiential learning* of art over the regular conventional methods.

Training Methodology

  • TTK follows the Bottom-Up Approach to enhance the Training Quality and identify the core capability of an Individual on case-to-case basis. Based on this approach, the methodical instructions for the course are drawn for acing the learning components – The 3Ns.

    Nrutta – The Footwork
    The Focus : Building on the rudiments of Footwork, GPS : Gestures, Poses & Stances and Different Styles of Sway & Swing.
    Students are trained to develop a good stance and footwork with ease of movement along with the music in form of rhythm or melody.

    The preset compilation of footwork / steps is commonly known as Adavus which differs according to various styles that evolved from several regions of South India.
    At Beej, the students are introduced to All Inclusive aesthetically evolved renowned styles from Mysore, Tanjore, Kalakshetra, Vazhuvoor to name a few to develop a strong foundation on the various footwork combinations to create a sequence.

    The Outcome : Students will be able to perform Nrutta based Items such as Alaaripu, Pushpanjali, Jatiswaram etc.

  • Nritya – The Expressions
    The Focus : Developing a rich and unambiguous nonverbal vocabulary through GPS.

    Students are taught to express through Hand Gestures to Establish, Facial Expression to Emote and the Pose or Stance to Dramatize any given context. The present compilation of Gestures and Expressions are commonly known as Abhinaya.

    Natya Shastra & Abhinaya Darpana are the classic compendiums followed at Beej.
    The Outcome : Students will be able to perform Nritya based Items such as Shabdam, Kauthuvam, Krithis, Thillanas etc

  • Natya – The Rendition or Performance
    The Focus : Progressing to Creative Level of Play / Rendition

    Natya is to actively put to use the Nrutta & Nritya aspects and present any given context as a whole play while adhering to the aesthetics of the art form and the prescribed style. Students now advance to do creative renditions extempore.

    The Outcome : Students will be able to perform a complete Margam or a Thematic recital comprising Nrutta & Nritya Based
    Items that include Varnams, Sanchari laden compositions such as Padam, Javalis & Ashtapad

Beej Regulations

General

  • Monthly Fees to be paid on or before 7th of every month.
    A late fee of $5 applicable to Fees paid after 7th of the month. In order to avoid such delays, Parents are requested to setup GIRO payments. Forms can be collected at the Centre.
  • Parents are not permitted to sit inside while the class is in progress.
  • Unauthorized recording or video shooting in not allowed in Class.
  • Centre will remain closed on Fifth Week (29, 30 & 31 of all months) and Public Holidays and no make-up lesson would be offered on account of this.

Absenteeism, Prior Leave & Comp Classes

Attendance percentage is 90% & above and should have attended minimum 1 Booster class and participated in 1 event to qualify for annual examination.

A student can obtain free compensatory class for up to 2 leaves and every additional compensation class is chargeable at $25 per class (Individual session).

Beej will offer free compensation class for any change in the regular schedule by the Academy.
